The Bridgewater Barracudas Swim Club exists to promote and develop competitive swimming for the youth of Bridgewater and surrounding area during the summer months. The philosophy of the club is based on competitiveness, sportsmanship and fair play. It is hoped that through training and coaching, swimmers will improve their level of skill and enjoy the benefits of being part of a team.
We offer a daily swim program running from late June to mid-August. Qualified coaches focus on stroke technique, dryland training, fair play, while promoting positive team spirit and having fun. Periodic time trials provide goal-setting and preparation for swim meets. We are a member in good standing with Swim Nova Scotia.
The club believes swimmers benefit when there is direct involvement by parents/guardians. To this end, it is an expectation of the club that there be a significant level of support from parents/guardians during the swim season.
New Swimmers Welcome!
Minimum requirements: to be able to swim one 25m length of pool, open to ages 5 -18 years
What are the benefits of summer swimming?
What to expect for scheduling?
The team swims Monday to Friday, in two groups: 3:15 - 4:15pm, and 4:15 - 5:15pm. At the start of the season, the coaches will let you know the time your swimmer should attend. Evening swim practices once a week open to 13+ (*subject to change upon registration numbers), Tuesday morning Dryland practices, weekend swim meets held in different locations, and other fun activities planned throughout the season (Deck Nights, Big Ex Parade participants, other fun group activities).
What if we are away on vacation or can't come every day?
Daily training is encouraged, but coaches realize that families take vacation, so it is understandable that swimmers will be away from time to time.
How many meets should we attend?
Meets are open to all members, regardless of ability. A meet schedule for our team will be provided at the beginning of the summer. They are held every weekend starting July 13 ending with Provincials, August 16 - 18th hosted at the Canada Games Centre this year. Meet attendance is definitely encouraged by coaches so the swimmer can gain confidence and experience, and swimmers can attend as many as they like. Swimmers are required to attend at least one in order to qualify to attend Provincials. Meets are also a fun time to be with your teammates and their families, many friendships are made between swims!
Is it mandatory to purchase Cuda Bathing Suits or Clothing?
No. Cuda clothing is optional. The Cuda bathing suits are a high quality Speedo brand, that stands-up better to chlorine. A clothing order will be organized before the swim season begins.
How much does it cost?
Bridgewater Barracuda Swimmer Fee - $300
Swim Nova Scotia annual fee - $105
Please note: If your swimmer has already swam during the off-season, you have already paid your annual Swim Nova Scotia fee. If your swimmer has NOT swam during the off-season, you will need to include the Swim Nova Scotia annual fee with your payment.
$300 per swimmer (if swimmer swam in the off-season)
$405 per swimmer (if swimmer did not swim in the off-season)
* $20 less for each additional swimmer in a family.
Parent Involvement
The Barracudas have social activities for the swimmers, run time trials for swimmers, and host a swim meet. Any time a parent can help out is welcomed and encouraged. The club also relies upon volunteers during time trials (timers, stroke & turn judges, etc.) and online courses are available.
The Barracudas host a swim meet in July at the Bridgewater Pool. Many parent volunteers are required to help with set-up of grounds, canteen, timing, and on deck assistance. Many hands make light work.
If parents volunteer for even one activity, it will help the club and most events are fun and medium effort. There will be a sign-up sheet available upon registering to choose where you are able to help out.
